Description of our services
We choose to view our Sunday morning and Wednesday evening services as a "banquet" that is given in honor of our awesome God who blesses each gathering with His very real presence.
Our goal and passion at every "banquet" is that each "course" that is served will magnify Him and give everyone in attendance a "taste" of His goodness. As His character and glory are unveiled, our prayer is that those who already know Him would invigorate themselves afresh by drinking of the living water that He so freely longs to lavish upon them. For those at the banquet that don't know Him, the cry of our heart is that they would not only recognize that He is the only one who can satisfy their hunger and thirst for joy and meaning in life, but that they would truly "taste and see that the Lord is good."
Our Sunday morning "banquet" in His honor serves up the following 6 courses so that His goodness may be feasted upon by everyone present.
- Through corporate worship in singing, we gladly reflect back to Him and proclaim to others, His glory and worthiness to be known. The style of this corporate worship will regularly reflect the uniqueness of the various cultures of the people that call CCIF home.
- Through corporate prayer, occasionally in languages other than English, we boldly proclaim that our God is not only approachable and longing to communicate with His people, but also that we are completely dependent on Him. We're confident that He is pleased when His people agree with one another as they speak to Him, and we eagerly anticipate seeing how He will respond.
- Through gifted pastor/teachers empowered by His Spirit, we eagerly listen to His word taught in a verse by verse manner and applied to our lives. As His Spirit leads, we also hear a clear presentation of the true condition of mankind and the good news that through the sacrificial death and resurrection of His Son, He extends to each person an opportunity for an intimate relationship with Himself.
- Through the opportunity to worship Him by giving back to Him a portion of the finances with which He has blessed us, we declare that everything we possess comes from Him. We also take great joy in recognizing that a portion of what we've given will be used in practical ways to proclaim His glory among all people, and expand His kingdom around the world.
- Through receiving reports of how our Missionary God is reaching out with His love and truth around the world, we realize that what He's doing in our lives and in our community is a part of something larger that He's accomplishing. Hearing these things not only assists us in avoiding a "self-focus", it provokes us to pursue even more joy in Him by diligently seeking to discover how we might play a greater role in something that is obviously of an extremely high priority to our God.
- Through providing a format and the time necessary for developing and deepening relationships among those that are gathered at the banquet, we invite all of those present to taste of the joy that comes from not only having a relationship with our God, but also knowing His people at an intimate, personal level.
Biblical references for using this type of a theme for our services:
Ps 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Luke 14:16-24 Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, 17 and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready.' 18 But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.' 19 And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.' 20 Still another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' 21 So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.' 22 And the servant said, 'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.' 23 Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.'"
A banquet, a fountain---we drink from it, but we can capture it's life giving essence in a container and take it to others….and we should, doing so by being mini-fountains ourselves.
John 7:37-39 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
At a banquet, the following components are essential:
- Proper atmosphere, or ambience
- The setting of the room itself and its furniture and décor are what's appropriate for the dignity of the person being honored.
- The servants serve joyfully and are alert to the needs of every guest
- There is more than just talk about the honoree, the guests are given the opportunity to meet Him personally.
Those that attend should leave with a relationship with the one who has been honored and a greater respect for Him. They should also go away with the nourishment essential for continuing on with their lives with satisfaction and indescribable joy.
